P.E.I. Section Canadian Figure Skating Association was established in 1974 as a section, prior to which time, PEI was a region of New Brunswick Section. The section was incorporated on August 18, 1983. Much of the organizational work in the founding of the Section was done by Peggy Burns and Barb MacMillan. Joan Campaigne was the first Chairman.
The purpose of the association was then and continues to be to enable Canadians to participate in skating throughout their lives. At the annual general meeting in May of 2001 held in St. John, New Brunswick, the membership of the Canadian Figure Skating Association voted to change their name to Skate Canada. The thirteen Sections followed suite and Skate Canada Prince Edward Island evolved.
Skate Canada PEI now consists of nine clubs covering the Island and has approximately 2,000 members. These clubs are all represented on the Skate Canada PEI Board of Directors, which is run by volunteers who contribute countless hours for the benefit of the sport and its athletes of all ages and abilities.
