NOTICE OF 50th ANNUAL MEETING

 

The 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Skate Canada PEI will be held on May 4, 2024, at 10am at The Loyalist Country Inn & Conference Centre – Summerside (195 Heather Moyse Dr, Summerside, PE C1N 5R1). There is no restriction on the number of people attending, but voting is restricted as follows:

Each club is entitled to one voting delegate, in addition to the club representative and other members presently serving on the Section Board of Directors. Delegates must be registered with Skate Canada as members of a club.

Club Reps: Skate Canada PEI requires each Club to confirm it will have an attendee attending, by April 22, 2024. This advance knowledge is to confirm that quorum requirements for the AGM will be met and, if they cannot be met, we will send out a new date and time. Once the date is confirmed, links to the platforms will be provided to each attendee.

The officer nomination and nominating acceptance form you will find enclosed is for those officers of the Section Executive that will be filled at the AGM in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws of Skate Canada PEI. These include: Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and Directors-at-large. Committee chairpeople will be appointed from elected directors after the AGM. Please bring nomination papers to the attention of your members. Completed nomination papers are to be emailed to the Section Office (skatecanadapei@gmail.com) by noon on April 29, 2024.

The Skate Canada AGM will be held online on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 10:00 (PDT). Each club can get the complete information package from Skate Canada on their website regarding this meeting. Each club is entitled to one delegate to vote during the Skate Canada Annual Meeting. The delegate must register to vote online on the Skate Canada declaration portal on the Skate Canada website. All coaches have a vote and can vote online and can act as a delegate for a club while carrying their own vote.

2024 PEI Skating Workshop with Heather McMahon (Rescheduled -> New Date TBC)

Overview:
Join us for an enlightening evening workshop featuring Heather McMahon. Designed for all members of Skate Canada, including coaches, skaters, volunteers, club managers, and staff, this session will focus on:
  • Best Practices for Ice Sharing
  • Club and Skating School Standards
  • Adaptive Skating and Inclusiveness

Heather McMahon holds the position of Senior Manager for Skating Programs at Skate Canada, where her extensive knowledge and vast experience are instrumental. Heather's involvement with the national service center staff spans 15 years, during which time she has assumed numerous roles, ranging from administrative tasks to her current managerial position.
 
One of Heather's noteworthy achievements is her significant contribution to the team that developed the current CanSkate, PowerSkate, and STAR 1-5 programs. She also played an integral role in the creation of the STAR 1-Gold assessment structure. The team's current focus is on creating and expanding opportunities for Adult and Adaptive participants, a project Heather is passionately involved in.
 
Heather's competencies extend beyond management; she is a learning facilitator and coach evaluator for both CanSkate coach and Regional coach levels within the NCCP. In addition, she maintains a hands-on approach as an NCCP National level coach. With an impressive coaching career that has lasted over three decades, Heather's dedication to the sport is unquestionable.

 

 

2024 Skate Canada PEI Award Banquet

Celebrate the accomplishments of our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and officials at the Awards Banquet following the AGM. The banquet will include a lunch, awards presentation, and a keynote speech. It's a fantastic opportunity to honor those who have made significant contributions to our community over the past year.

Banquet Details:

  • Menu: Mixed Green Salad, Island Turkey Dinner
  • Dress Code: Semi-formal
  • Tickets: Nominees attend for free. Guest tickets are $20 per person.

For nominees and their guests, payment for guest tickets can be made via e-transfer to scpeitreasurer@gmail.com. Please include your name and the number of guests in the transfer description.
